Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency convex mirror is a circular wall mirror originating from the early nineteenth century, characterised by an outward-curving glass pane and a gilded wooden frame. These mirrors were designed to reflect light and offer a wide-angle view of a room, often decorated with eagle crestings and ball mouldings.

Regency giltwood mirrors were typically constructed from carved pine or lime wood coated with gesso and gold leaf through water gilding. The inner slip framing the convex glass often features ebonised wood with reeded detailing.

Authentic Regency pieces feature hand-carved wood elements, original water gilding exhibiting natural wear or reddish clay bole beneath, and heavy convex glass that may show subtle distortional irregularities or oxidation spots.

Place a Regency convex mirror above a fireplace mantelpiece, console table, or dining room sideboard as a central focal point. The curved glass reflects light around dark spaces, while the carved frame adds texture and historical balance to contemporary schemes.

Clean giltwood frames using a dry, soft, lint-free cloth or a soft bristle brush to remove dust from carved crevices. Avoid using liquid cleaners, solvents, or water, as moisture can dissolve the underlying gesso and damage traditional water gilding.
