Convex mirrors feature curved glass that bows outwards, providing a wide-angle view of an entire room. They gained immense popularity in Britain during the late Georgian and Regency periods, serving both as decorative wall features and as functional items that allowed servants to observe a room discreetly.

These mirrors were typically constructed from carved timber or gesso over wood, finished with water gilding using genuine gold leaf. The inner frame features a reeded ebonised slip, while the outer moulding is decorated with relief spheres or balls.

Authentic pieces display natural signs of age, including foxing or silvering degradation on the heavy glass plate, slight cracking or craquelure in the gesso under the gilded surface, and traditional hand-cut timber backing boards.
