Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the early nineteenth century, Regency mirrors of this type combine dark ebonised wood frames with contrasting gilded accents. They frequently featured circular or convex profiles influenced by classical Greek and Roman decorative motifs popular during the period.

These mirrors were typically crafted from hand-carved timber coated in black ebonised lacquer or varnish, alongside gesso applied with gold leaf gilding. The reflective plate was composed of glass backing silvered with a tin and mercury amalgam.

Authentic period pieces show signs of age such as natural oxidisation or foxing spots on the glass plate, layered hand-carved wooden backboards, and natural surface wear to the ebonised finish where underlying timber or gesso shows through.

A circular ebonised mirror works effectively as a focal point mounted above a fireplace mantelpiece, within a hallway alcove, or positioned centrally above a sideboard to provide depth and architectural contrast against light walls.

Dust the frame regularly with a dry, soft microfiber cloth, avoiding liquid polishes or abrasive cleaners on gilt gesso. Glass cleaner should be sprayed onto a cloth rather than directly on the mirror to prevent moisture from seeping behind the frame edge.
