Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Popularised in Britain during the early nineteenth century, convex mirrors were designed to reflect an entire room from a single focal point. They were often placed in dining rooms or drawing rooms to allow hosts to observe guests and servants discreetly.

These mirrors traditionally consist of a carved pine or gesso frame covered in gold leaf gilding, enclosing a curved glass plate. A reeded ebonised wooden slip is usually fitted between the mirror glass and the outer frame.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples often exhibit hand-carved wood details, original gesso underlying the gilt finish, and subtle foxing or distortion in the heavy curved glass plate. The reverse side usually shows hand-sawn wooden backing boards and original iron fittings.

A convex mirror is commonly placed above a fireplace mantelpiece, console table, or in a narrow hallway. Its curved lens amplifies natural light and adds structural depth to contemporary and period interiors alike.

Dust the giltwood frame gently with a soft dry brush, avoiding water or chemical cleaners that can lift the gold leaf and gesso. Clean the glass plate using a damp microfibre cloth, ensuring no moisture seeps into the wooden slip.
