Popularised in early nineteenth-century Britain, Regency convex mirrors feature circular curved glass set within carved giltwood frames, designed to reflect light and entire rooms back into a space.

These mirrors were constructed using hand-carved wood frames coated in gesso and gold leaf, occasionally combined with ebonised or painted inner reeded rims, and fitted with convex silvered glass.

Authentic period pieces display evidence of hand-carved wood joinery, heavy gesso layers beneath water gilding, original foxing or mercury silvering on the curved glass, and period-appropriate mounting hardware on the reverse.

Positioning the mirror above a fireplace mantelpiece or sideboard allows its curved glass to catch ambient light and act as an architectural focal point in contemporary or traditional living spaces.

Dust the carved frame gently with a soft dry brush, avoiding liquid cleaners or chemicals on the gold leaf finish, and clean the glass with a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water.
