Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the early nineteenth century, Regency convex mirrors are characterised by circular giltwood frames, frequently embellished with ball or spherule mouldings and a dark ebonised inner slip. The convex glass plate was designed to reflect light and capture a wide view of an entire room.

These mirrors are typically constructed from carved wood or moulded pine coated with gesso and overlaid with water-gilded gold leaf. The interior slip framing the curved mirrored plate is crafted from ebonised wood, often with reeded detailing.

Authentic Regency mirrors demonstrate subtle wear on the gilding that reveals the underlying red or grey bole, along with natural oxidisation or foxing on the silvered convex glass. The backboard usually shows hand-sawn construction and original wood joinery.

Position a convex mirror above a fireplace mantelpiece, console table, or within a hallway gallery wall to serve as a focal point. The curved glass catches and disperses light, while the gilded frame provides texture and contrast against contemporary wall colours.

Dust the giltwood frame gently with a dry, soft feather duster or dry microfibre cloth, avoiding liquid cleaners which can dissolve water-gilding and gesso. Clean the glass carefully with a slightly damp cloth, keeping moisture away from the perimeter of the frame.
