Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency pier glass is a tall, narrow mirror designed during the early nineteenth century to fit on the wall space, or pier, between windows. These pieces often feature neoclassical architectural details such as fluted columns, classical capitals, and decorative verre eglomise glass panels.

These mirrors were constructed using hand-carved timber frameworks coated in gesso and finished with gold leaf gilding. Decorative panels frequently used the verre eglomise technique, where leaf gold or silver is applied to the reverse side of glass and etched with intricate designs.

Authentic period mirrors display signs of hand-craftsmanship, including hand-carved wood jointing and hand-applied gilding. The mirror glass usually shows age-related foxing or oxidisation, while the verre eglomise panels feature hand-drawn classical motifs rather than printed patterns.

A pier mirror functions effectively when placed above a hall console table, dining room sideboard, or fireplace mantelpiece. Its vertical proportions create height, whilst the gilded finish introduces warm metallic contrast within contemporary or traditional schemes.

Dust the frame and verre eglomise panel gently using a soft, dry camel-hair brush or dry microfibre cloth. Avoid liquid cleaners, water, or commercial glass sprays near the gilded frame or reverse-painted glass to prevent moisture damage and peeling.
