Convex mirrors gained popularity in Britain during the Regency era from 1811 to 1820. The curved glass allowed viewers to observe an entire room from a single vantage point, making them functional as well as decorative items in period reception rooms.

Frames from this period were typically crafted from hand-carved timber covered in gesso and oil or water gilding with real gold leaf. The inner rim frequently featured an ebonised reeded slip, while the convex reflective glass was silvered.
