Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Snuff boxes were prominent accessories from the seventeenth to nineteenth centuries, designed to hold finely powdered tobacco for personal inhalation. Crafted to be airtight to maintain freshness, silver examples served as symbols of social status and were frequently presented as commemorative gifts or tokens of esteem.

These boxes were constructed from high-grade sterling silver, often featuring engine-turned engraving, hand-chased borders, and flush-fitting thumbpieces. Internal surfaces were frequently gilded with a thin layer of gold to protect the silver from oxidisation caused by the moisture in tobacco.

Authenticity is verified by checking for official British hallmark stamps, which indicate the silver purity, makers mark, town mark, and date letter. Authentic Victorian pieces also exhibit period-specific construction details, such as integrated flush hinges and crisp hand engraving.

Small silver boxes can be placed on an office desk, styled on top of stacked books, or placed inside a display cabinet. Their metallic finish and detailed surface engraving add visual texture and historical context to contemporary surfaces.

Dust regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and polish gently using a silver-specific cloth to prevent tarnish build-up. Avoid submerging the piece in water or applying abrasive creams, as these can strip original surface detail or damage delicate hinges.
