Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George III silver snuff box is a pocket-sized container crafted from sterling silver during the reign of King George III (17601820). Designed primarily to hold powdered tobacco, these personal accessories reflected the social customs and silversmithing standards of late 18th and early 19th-century Britain.

Georgian snuff boxes were constructed from sterling silver (925 purity standard), often utilising hand-hammering, engine turning, and hand engraving. Higher-end examples featured flush integrated hinges to create air-tight closures that prevented moisture from damaging the contents inside.

Authentic pieces carry a full set of British hallmarks stamped into the metal, typically inside the lid or base. These marks include the makers mark, the sterling lion passant, the assay office mark (such as an anchor for Birmingham), a date letter corresponding to 1799, and the duty mark showing the monarchs profile.

Small antique silver objects are frequently placed on desk trays, layered atop decorative books, or displayed inside glass-fronted vitrines alongside other period metalwork. Their reflective surfaces complement dark timber furniture, leather upholstery, and minimalist stone surfaces.

Silver pieces should be dusted with a soft microfibre cloth and cleaned occasionally using specialized, non-abrasive silver polish to remove tarnish. Avoid harsh chemical dips or prolonged submersion in water, as moisture can become trapped inside the hinge assembly.
