Sunderland Lustre Great Australia Clipper & the Unfortunate London Clipper Jug

Description

This fabulous ANTIQUE SUNDERLAND LUSTRE JUG, dating from circa 1865, is decorated to one side with THE GREAT AUSTRALIA CLIPPER SHIP and, to the other, with THE UNFORTUNATE LONDON CLIPPER SHIP and a verse entitled LOVE.

The GREAT AUSTRALIA CLIPPER was built in 1860 and THE LONDON CLIPPER in 1864 but was lost in a storm on her third voyage to Australia in 1865.

The JUG is in overall good condition for its age. There is a reglued chip to the lip and two old hairlines which are shown in the photographs, one near the lip and one on the inside near the base.

There is no restoration.

A beautifully proportioned JUG.
