This is a wonderful example of a late 18th Century Caughley leaf moulded ale or wine ''mask'' jug.
From around 1775 to 1799, soft paste porcelain was produced at Caughley near Broseley in Shropshire, England by Ambrose Gallimore and Thomas Turner.
This jug is in the blue and white Fisherman pattern with three transfer applied roundels against the moulded ground. There is a very crisp Bacchus face on the spout, which would suggest that it was intended for use of ale or wine, although it could have been used for any liquids. It is printed with an ''S'' on the base. The condition is excellent, which is amazing given its age and the stories it could tell.
