Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This late nineteenth century Sheraton Revival urn stand displays a golden brown satinwood and mahogany timber construction with hand-painted floral garlands, an octagonal top, a pull-out slide featuring a small round metal pull handle, slender tapered square legs, and an intersecting X-frame stretcher decorated with a central sunburst motif. The refined architectural profile measures 71 cm high, 30 cm wide, and 30 cm deep. Positioned in an empty corner, the piece functions practically as a decorative stand for displaying a small urn, sculpture, or ceramic vessel. The compact footprint makes it well-suited for adding surface space and ornamental detail to a hallway, drawing room, or study without taking up a significant amount of floor area.

FAQs

An urn stand is a small, tall occasional table originally designed during the eighteenth century to hold a hot water urn or tea kettle for tea service. They frequently included a small pull-out slide to hold a teapot or cup during preparation.

These stands were traditionally crafted using fine hardwoods such as satinwood, mahogany, or harewood, often featuring delicate marquetry, bandings, or hand-painted floral decoration. Construction typically included slender tapered legs joined by cross stretchers for stability.

Authentic period urn stands feature hand-cut joinery, thin timber veneers over solid hardwood cores, and natural signs of age such as slight shrinkage or patina. Look for original hardware on the pull-out slide and authentic hand-painted detailing rather than modern stencilling.

An antique urn stand functions effectively as a plant stand, candle display, or focal point in an unused alcove or entry hall. Its slender silhouette makes it suitable for compact spaces where floor area is limited.

Keep painted satinwood away from direct sunlight, dampness, and heat sources to prevent cracking, fading, or veneer lifting. Regular dusting should be carried out using a dry, soft microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical sprays or excess water.
