FAQs

An Edwardian coronation mug is a commemorative ceramic vessel manufactured to mark the accession and official crowning of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra in 1902, forming part of the British royal souvenir ceramic tradition.

These vessels were typically crafted from earthenware or ironstone pottery, with decorative detail applied via transfer printing using copper-plate engraved images transferred onto unglazed or glost pottery before firing.

Authentic pieces display profile or frontal portraits of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, often accompanied by royal heraldry, coronation dates, and stamped maker marks or registry numbers on the base.

Antique commemorative mugs are best styled grouped on open kitchen shelving, integrated into bookshelf decor, or arranged alongside other blue and white transferware pieces in traditional dressers.

Clean gently by hand using warm water and neutral detergent, avoiding prolonged immersion, harsh chemicals, or dishwashers to prevent glaze damage or water ingress into body crazing.
