Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. This late 19th-century Victorian Reformed Gothic washstand is made from honey-brown figured maple with contrasting dark geometric wood inlay and a substantial white marble top. The architectural raised gallery and lower stretcher shelf both incorporate original Minton ceramic tiles decorated in green, blue, and brown tones. Two frieze drawers are fitted with brass drop-ring handles and complemented by finely turned column supports and chamfered edges. The entire structure stands upon curved feet fitted with white china castors. Practical dimensions measure 110 cm high, 140 cm wide, and 59 cm deep. Suitable for contemporary interiors, this piece functions well as a grand hall table, a console table, or a double vanity unit in a modern bathroom. The lower shelf offers open storage or display space, while the marble top provides a durable, wipe-clean surface for daily use. The distinctive mix of architectural woodwork and colourful ceramic tiles integrates smoothly into eclectic period or modern living spaces.

FAQs

Reformed Gothic furniture emerged in the mid-to-late 19th century as a response to elaborate Victorian revivalism, emphasising honest construction, geometric inlay, and functional medieval-inspired forms.

Victorian washstands often featured light timbers such as ash, birch, or satinwood, paired with durable marble tops, inset ceramic tiles, and cast brass hardware.

Authentic pieces generally display flat geometric marquetry, chamfered edges, exposed joints, turned pillars, and stylised floral ceramic tiles rather than high-relief carving.

A Victorian washstand functions well as a hallway console table, a bathroom vanity, or a statement server in a dining room, paired with minimalist contemporary accents.

Clean the timber with a soft microfibre cloth and specialised furniture wax, while marble surfaces should be wiped with a pH-neutral cleaner to prevent etching and staining.
