This Georgian lowboy is an 18th-century side table formed from dark brown oak with brass hardware. The structure rests on turned front legs connected by stretchers and a shaped, relief-carved front apron with a matching carved design across the single drawer face. Two brass swan-neck handles flank a keyhole escutcheon on the drawer, positioned beneath a moulded top and decorated with pegged joints. The timber displays a rich dark brown polish across the visible surfaces, complemented by the cast brass handles. Measuring 71 cm in height, 75 cm in length, and 49 cm in depth, the table suits placement beside the front door or as an accent piece in a hallway or living space. The compact proportions allow use as a hallway surface for correspondence or keys while maintaining traditional English country house character in everyday interiors.

Lowboys originated in the late 17th and 18th centuries as small utility tables with drawers, commonly serving as dressing tables or side tables in British domestic settings.

These pieces were constructed from solid English oak using joinery techniques such as hand-cut dovetail joints, pegged mortise and tenon frames, and hand-carved drawer fronts.

Authentic period lowboys feature indicators of hand-craftsmanship, including uneven tool marks, thick drawer linings, period-appropriate brass cast hardware, and deep patination on the timber surface.

An oak lowboy functions effectively as an entryway console or side table, juxtaposed against plain neutral walls or paired with contemporary lighting and artwork.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber and protect the natural patination.
