Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

This nineteenth-century Gothic Revival long bench is constructed from solid oak in a warm brown tone with a polished timber finish. The design incorporates an open backrail composed of two horizontal slats, shaped armrests containing trefoil cutouts, latticed sides, and Gothic arch spandrels beneath the seat frame, all supported on four shaped legs. Visible structural details include panel joinery along the planked back and linear edge mouldings running the length of the seat. Measuring 200 cm wide, 34 cm deep, and 79 cm high, this narrow seating piece is suited for placement in a hallway, corridor, or living space against a wall, or positioned at the foot of a bed.

Gallery benches and pews were designed during the 18th and 19th centuries to provide structured seating in public assembly rooms, chapels, and courtrooms. Influenced by medieval woodwork, many featured architectural elements popularized by the Gothic Revival movement.

Solid hardwoods such as oak, pitch pine, and walnut were predominantly used due to their durability and dense grain. High-traffic seating was routinely joined using traditional mortise and tenon construction secured with timber pegs.

Authentic Gothic Revival seating typically features carved architectural details such as trefoil or quatrefoil cutouts, pointed arches, and sturdy pegged joinery. Examining the underside for hand-sawn timber marks and genuine age-related surface wear helps confirm period origins.

A long oak bench serves as a focal point in expansive entrance halls, wide corridors, or along dining tables. Pairing the dark timber with neutral walls and contemporary textiles creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern minimalism.

Maintain oak furniture by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and applying a natural beeswax polish twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture to prevent the timber from warping or splitting.
