Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An etagere is a open-shelved piece of furniture originating in 18th-century France. Designed to display porcelain, small ornaments, or books, these portable tables became widespread across European interiors during the 19th century.

These tables are typically constructed using fine cabinet woods such as kingwood, rosewood, or walnut, decorated with contrasting wood marquetry inlays. They are often finished with cast brass or ormolu mounts along the edges and legs to protect the fine veneers.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut marquetry work with subtle variations in tone, hand-cast brass mounts fixed with original screws, and signs of age such as natural oxidation beneath the tiers and timber shrinkage consistent with period construction.

Position the etagere alongside modern upholstered seating or in an entryway to create visual interest. The dual tiers offer functional space for small table lamps, art books, or curated decorative ceramics alongside contemporary decor.

Keep the table away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood movement and veneer lifting. Dust regularly with a dry, lint-free cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish periodically to nourish the wood while avoiding harsh chemicals on brass mounts.
