Description

South west persia, arab tribes of the khamseh confederacy,last quarter 19th century.

An arab weaving of some note featuring five ivory ground pole ended medallions with the pecking chickens inside.

Dark blue/black field filled with dogs,goats,pecking chickens and headless animals,rosettes,s-shaped motifs and many more tribal ornaments.

Interesting soumakh flat weave woven ends in a chevron pattern.

Rebound side cords in arab coloured fashion on these weavings. Ends secured. All over low pile with even wear. Some hard to see scattered repairs as is usual on these weavings of this age. Priced accordingly. Ready to go straight into home.

Size is 8 foot 8 inches by 5 foot . 265cm X 154cm. At widest points. All wool construction.

Khamseh rugs were produced by the Khamseh Confederation, a tribal alliance formed in the 19th century in the Fars province of South-West Persia. These hand-woven textiles reflect nomadic traditions, blending artistic influences from Arab, Basseri, and Turkic weaving communities.
