London City Antiques has dated this Victorian Walnut Salon Suite to the 1850s.
The sofa is particularly striking with its triple back and sweeping arms designed to create a graceful centrepiece within a formal interior. The armchairs follow the same refined lines with the gentleman’s chair offering a broader more generous seat while the lady’s chair is slightly more delicate in proportion. The six side chairs complete the suite all maintaining consistent design and craftsmanship throughout.

This type of suite was made for the Victorian drawing room, a formal space used for receiving guests and social occasions rather than everyday use. The intention was to create a coordinated and elegant setting and suites such as this would have been a statement of taste and status within the home. Today it offers exactly the same appeal allowing a complete interior scheme to be created instantly.

The suite has been newly upholstered in a high quality neutral fabric which complements the warm tones of the walnut and allows it to sit comfortably in both traditional and more contemporary interiors.
