Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Arts and Crafts movement emphasized honest craftsmanship, natural materials, and functional design. Hall stands from this era typically feature clean rectilinear forms, subtle geometric marquetry or wood inlay, and practical features such as integrated mirrors, glove drawers, and umbrella holders.

High-quality hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, and walnut were predominantly used. These pieces often incorporated slate or marble surfaces for durability, mirrored glass panels, cast iron or brass drip trays, and hand-turned wooden coat pegs.

Authentic pieces exhibit traditional joinery techniques such as mortise and tenon joints, hand-carved details or geometric wood inlays, genuine period fixings, and original drip trays in the umbrella compartments.

Position the hall stand in an entryway or foyer against a neutral painted backdrop to highlight its dark timber silhouette. Use the central marble or wooden surface to display a small floral arrangement or decorative tray, keeping the coat pegs functional yet uncluttered.

Dust the woodwork regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year following the grain. Avoid placing wet umbrellas directly against unlined wood, and clean any marble surfaces with a neutral pH stone cleaner.
