Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Figured walnut furniture is defined by its distinctive grain patterns, including burr, crotch, and feather veneers, which were favoured during the late 17th and 18th centuries. These pieces typically feature double-curved aprons, compressed bun feet, and refined brass hardware.

Open bookcases of this style are traditionally constructed using solid hardwood frames faced with figured walnut veneers. Dovetail joinery is standard for the drawers, accompanied by solid wood back panels and hand-turned feet.

Authenticity can be determined by checking for cut veneer thickness, hand-dovetailed drawer joints, and original brass fittings showing light oxidisation. Genuine period and quality revival pieces display natural wood movement, subtle surface wear, and unpolished secondary timbers inside the drawers.

Position a low walnut bookcase in an entryway, living room, or study to display literature, ceramics, and small table lighting. The warm wood tones contrast effectively against neutral wall paint and contemporary upholstered seating.

Dust surfaces regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber. Keep the furniture away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer cracking or discolouration.
