Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A centre table, prominent in 19th-century interiors, was designed to be positioned in the middle of a room, hall, or drawing room rather than placed against a wall. Frequently featuring elaborate carving and a central pedestal, these tables served both functional and decorative purposes in grand homes.

Victorian centre tables were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany, walnut, or rosewood, frequently incorporating flame mahogany veneers on the apron and tabletop. Construction techniques featured hand-carved pedestal supports, blind dovetail joints, and heavy quadruped bases.

Authentic 19th-century pieces display hand-carved decorative motifs such as acanthus leaves and scroll feet that exhibit slight variations consistent with hand craftsmanship. Additionally, look for natural age patina, historic wear on the lower pedestal, and period-appropriate joining techniques underneath the tabletop.

In a modern setting, an antique centre table functions effectively as a focal point in an entryway or foyer, topped with a ceramic vessel or display books. Alternatively, it can serve as a compact dining table when paired with contemporary, minimalist seating to create visual contrast.

To preserve mahogany furniture, position it away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent timber shrinkage and veneer movement. Dust regularly with a soft cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually to protect the original finish.
