Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian marquetry centre table is a 19th-century piece of furniture designed to sit prominently in the middle of a parlour or drawing room. It features decorative wood veneers forming intricate floral or geometric inlay patterns, often constructed with a tilt-top mechanism.

These tables were commonly constructed using high-quality timber such as burr walnut, mahogany, or rosewood. The decorative marquetry patterns utilised contrasting hardwoods, fruitwoods, boxwood, and occasionally mother-of-pearl or brass.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut marquetry veneers, natural age-related patination, and period-correct joinery underneath. Look for brass tilt-top catch mechanisms, original metal castors beneath carved tripod or quadruped bases, and slight irregularities in the hand-cut inlay.

A centre table can serve as an elegant focal point in a grand hallway, foyer, or living room space. It can be paired with contemporary lighting, textured ceramics, or botanical arrangements to create a balanced contrast between historical craftsmanship and modern aesthetics.

Keep the table away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer movement and fading. Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth, and apply a high-quality natural beeswax polish sparingly to protect the timber surface.
