Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian tilt-top centre table, often referred to as a loo table, is a 19th-century table designed to sit in the middle of a room. It features a top secured by a catch on a hinged central pedestal, allowing the surface to fold vertically when not in use to save space.

These tables feature burr walnut veneers cut from tree growths showing intricate grain patterns, applied over a solid wood substrate such as pine or mahogany. The central stem and tripod or quadruped base are typically constructed from solid walnut with hand-carved details.

Authentic period examples feature hand-cut brass or iron tilt catches underneath the top, original castors concealed beneath carved feet, and natural age contraction marks in the veneer. The underside often shows hand-sawn timber marks and untouched natural oxidisation.

A burr walnut table functions well as a focal point in a hallway, entry foyer, or drawing room corner. Its decorative wood grain pairs effectively with contemporary neutral backdrops, architectural lighting, and simple ceramic accessories.

Keep walnut furniture away from direct heat sources and long periods of sunlight to prevent veneer lifting or fading. Clean the surface with a dry lint-free cloth and apply high-grade beeswax twice yearly to protect the finish.
