Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian centre table is a freestanding piece of furniture designed to be viewed from all sides, traditionally placed in the middle of a large drawing room or entrance hall. Popular during the 19th century, these tables often featured elaborate carved bases, decorative veneers, and distinctively shaped tops.

Craftsmen typically utilized solid hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or rosewood, frequently topping them with decorative burr veneers. Bases were often hand-carved with elaborate scrollwork and fitted with brass or ceramic castors to allow ease of movement.

Authentic pieces feature natural variations in the burr veneer pattern, hand-cut dovetail joints or timber dowel construction, and genuine age-related patination on the underside. Original brass or ceramic castors and hand-carved details are also strong indicators of 19th-century craftsmanship.

Position the table in an entryway or central living space as a focal point, pairing it with contemporary sculpture or minimalist ceramics to balance the detailed woodwork. Combining rich wood tones with neutral surrounding decor highlights the intricate grain without overwhelming the room.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources to prevent the veneer from drying out or lifting. Dust regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply high-grade beeswax polish annually to protect the surface and preserve the natural lustre.
