Originating from the port of Imari in Japan, this style of ceramic ware is characterised by its underglaze cobalt blue decoration complemented by overglaze iron red, green, and gilt hand-painted enamels.

Traditional Imari porcelain was crafted from kaolin clay, fired initially at high temperatures with an underglaze blue pattern, and subsequently decorated with enamel pigments before undergoing lower-temperature kiln firings.
