Originating from the port of Imari in the Hizen province during the seventeenth century, Imari porcelain became a major export to Europe, renowned for its distinct underglaze blue and overglaze iron-red enamel decoration.

Imari ware is crafted from fine kaolin clay porcelain fired at high temperatures with underglaze cobalt blue, followed by secondary kiln firings to apply rich iron-red and enamel pigments over the glaze.

Authentic pieces typically feature hand-painted detailing with subtle variations, slight imperfections in the glaze, spur marks on the base from kiln firing, and a traditional palette combining cobalt blue with iron-red enamels.
