Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain refers to Japanese ceramic wares produced in the Arita region and exported from the port of Imari. It is predominantly recognized for its distinct palette of underglaze cobalt blue combined with overglaze iron red and gold enameling, often depicting floral and geometric patterns.

Pieces were shaped from local kaolin clay and fired at high temperatures. The blue decorative elements were applied as an underglaze before the initial firing, after which iron-red enamels and gilt highlights were hand-painted over the clear glaze and fixed during subsequent lower-temperature kiln firings.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit subtle irregularities in the hand-painted enamel, slight variations in the cobalt blue tone, and characteristic spur marks on the base from kiln supports. Additionally, older examples display a soft patina on the unglazed foot rim rather than pristine, uniform modern finishes.

An Imari plate can be presented on an acrylic or wooden display stand upon a sideboard, mantelpiece, or bookshelf to act as a colour accent. Alternatively, mounting it on a gallery wall alongside contemporary art creates an engaging contrast between traditional craftsmanship and modern design.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. If washing is necessary, use lukewarm water with a mild dish soap, avoiding abrasive sponges, harsh chemicals, or soaking, as these can strip or scratch delicate overglaze enamels and gilding.
