Imari porcelain originates from the Arita region of Japan and was exported extensively to Europe during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries via the port of Imari, heavily influencing European ceramic production.

Imari wares are crafted from high-fired kaolin porcelain, initially decorated with underglaze cobalt blue, then finished with overglaze enamels in iron-red and gold details during subsequent kiln firings.

Authentic historical pieces frequently exhibit subtle hand-painted variations, minor spur marks on the underside from kiln supports, and age-appropriate wear to the overglaze enamel and gilding.
