Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain originated in the Arita region of Japan during the seventeenth century and was exported to Europe via the port of Imari. The style is distinguished by its vibrant palette, featuring underglaze cobalt blue combined with overglaze iron red, gold, and enamel floral or geometric designs.

Imari ceramics are crafted from kaolin clay fired at high temperatures to produce hard-paste porcelain. The primary underglaze design is applied using cobalt oxide, followed by a clear glaze firing, after which iron-red enamels and gilded details are painted over the glaze and fired a second time.

Authentic pieces generally display subtle surface irregularities, hand-painted design variations, and firing spur marks on the underside base. Older examples often feature heavier porcelain body weights and rich, slightly uneven enamel applications compared to modern mass-produced reproductions.

These decorative ceramics can be displayed upright on clear acrylic or wooden plate stands along a sideboard or mantlepiece. Alternatively, secure wall hangers allow them to be incorporated into a curated gallery wall alongside framed art or contrasting blue-and-white porcelain.

Imari porcelain should be washed gently by hand using lukewarm water and a mild detergent. Avoid abrasive sponges, chemical cleaners, or dishwashers, as these can wear away fragile overglaze enamels and gilded highlighting over time.
