Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain refers to Japanese export ceramics produced in the Arita area of Hizen province and shipped through the port of Imari. It is characterised by its distinctive colour palette, traditionally combining underglaze cobalt blue with overglaze iron red and gilded embellishments.

Imari wares are made from kaolin-rich porcelain clay, fired at high temperatures for durability. The dark blue designs are painted directly onto the unglazed vessel using cobalt pigment before a clear glaze is applied and fired, followed by overglaze enamel painting in iron red and enamel colours.

Authentic Meiji period pieces often exhibit fine hand-painted decoration with slight irregularities in brushwork and enamel application. Look for smooth foot rims with slight iron staining, visible spur marks on the base, and characteristic underglaze blue and red floral or panelled motifs.

Imari porcelain pieces can be styled as focal accents on dark wood sideboards, integrated into gallery walls using plate hangers, or arranged inside display cabinets. Their contrasting cobalt blue and iron red palette pairs effectively with both traditional mahogany furniture and modern minimal settings.

Clean Imari porcelain by hand using warm water and mild dish detergent with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive sponges, chemical solvents, or dishwashers, as these can wear down delicate overglaze enamels and gilding over time.
