Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency pier mirror is a tall, narrow wall mirror originally designed during the early 19th century to be hung on the pier wall space between two windows. These mirrors typically feature architectural features such as fluted columns, decorative friezes, and hand-gilded finishes.

Regency gilt mirrors were constructed from carved wood frames covered in gesso and decorated with hand-applied gold leaf. The mirror plates from this era were made of glass backed with a tin and mercury amalgam.

Authentic Regency pier mirrors display age-related characteristics such as original mercury glass foxing, hand-carved joinery on the wooden backboard, and gentle wear to the gold leaf showing the underlying reddish bole or white gesso.

A Regency pier mirror can be positioned above a mantlepiece, console table, or within a hallway to enhance natural light and add structure to the wall. Pairing gilded details against contemporary paint colours creates an effective balance between historic and modern aesthetics.

Clean the gilded frame gently using a soft, dry brush to remove dust without applying water or chemical solvent solutions. Mirror glass should be cleaned using a damp microfiber cloth while ensuring moisture does not touch the edges of the gilded frame.
