This garden bench follows the Edwardian style, dating from 1930. The piece is constructed from solid teak wood, presenting a weathered silver-grey timber finish with natural moss growth visible on the lower frame and legs. The design incorporates a prominent arched cresting rail atop a slatted backrest, complemented by heavy scrolled armrests and visible mortise and tenon joinery. The wide slatted seat is supported by sturdy upright supports and a low stretcher base that runs parallel to the ground. The bench measures 104 cm high, 142 cm wide, 58 cm deep, with a seat height of 43 cm. Suitable for placement in an English country house garden, patio, or terrace, the seat provides a comfortable resting space for outdoor relaxation amidst natural surroundings. The heavy wooden construction ensures stability and durability for prolonged external use throughout the seasons.

Designed by British architect Sir Edwin Lutyens in the early twentieth century, this style was created for the gardens of Hestercombe House and became a signature element of the Arts and Crafts movement.

High-grade teak wood was predominantly used due to its high natural oil content, exceptional weather resistance, and long-term durability, assembled using mortise and tenon joinery.

Quality examples feature heavy timber construction, traditional mortise and tenon joinery rather than simple surface fixings, and a flowing, multi-tiered arched cresting rail integrated into the backrest.

Position the bench as a visual focal point at the end of a garden vista, against a dark evergreen hedge, or within a paved courtyard setting surrounded by terracotta pots.

Teak may be left outdoors to naturally weather into a silver-grey patina, requiring only occasional cleaning with warm soapy water and a soft brush to remove surface algae.
