Antique Caucasian Kuba Konagkend Rug

1900 - 1920
Description

Each component within this Kuba Konagkend rug is expertly proportioned. Four tribal embelems anchor the corners of the field, whilst hexagonal boxes and several V-shaped pictograms are woven in-between. A stepped polygon acts as the focal point, featuring an enigmatic box that is flanked by two pairs of futuristic rocket motifs - something that is often seen in 'Dragon' Sumac rugs. Furthermore, the bold reds and blacks inject the composition with a deep, dramatic intensity, complementing the colours on the minor borders. Despite displaying some unconventional design choices, this antique rug remains a striking piece that has the potential to enrich both traditional and contemporary interiors

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Caucasian Konagkend rugs originated in the northeastern Caucasus region, characterized by precise geometric compositions, stepped central medallions, cartouches, and detailed multi-banded borders hand-knotted by local weavers.

Hand-spun wool was used for both the pile and the foundation, dyed using natural plant and mineral pigments to achieve deep reds, indigos, ivories, and mid-tone colours.

Authentic pieces feature all-wool hand-knotted construction, dense weave structures, natural abrash colour variations in the pile, and distinct geometric motifs such as stepped medallions and geometric borders.

Position the geometric rug as a central grounding element alongside modern or classic wood furniture, neutral upholstery, and textured natural fabrics to create a balanced interior space.

Vacuum regularly using suction only without a rotating beat bar, rotate the rug annually to balance light exposure and wear, clean liquid spills immediately with mild water solutions, and place a quality rug pad underneath.
