Delft racks originated in British country houses during the 18th century as a functional solution for storing and displaying imported tin-glazed earthenware and ceramic plates within the kitchen or dining parlour.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid native hardwoods such as oak or elm, featuring pegged mortise and tenon joints, grooved plate rails, and heavy cornices designed to support the weight of heavy ceramics.

Authenticity is indicated by timber patination, hand-planed board surfaces, period-appropriate joinery such as handmade pegging, historical tool marks, and appropriate wear consistent with centuries of domestic use.

This piece can be mounted on a kitchen or dining room wall to display curated collections of ceramics, mixing historical texture and warmth into modern minimalist or transitional spaces.

Maintain the timber by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and occasionally applying natural beeswax to nourish the wood, avoiding direct sunlight and excessive humidity fluctuations.
