A lowboy is a small dressing table or side table with drawers, which first appeared in the late 17th century during the William and Mary period and remained popular throughout the Georgian era.

These tables were typically constructed from timbers such as walnut, oak, or mahogany, often featuring hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawer construction and traditional brass hardware.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the timber grain, secondary woods, hand-forged or cast brass fixings, and signs of age-appropriate wear and oxidisation within the drawer linings and joints.

A lowboy serves well as a console table in an entrance hall or as a distinctive side table in a living room, contrasting cleanly against neutral or contemporary backgrounds.

Maintain antique wooden surfaces by keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and treat them periodically with traditional beeswax to nourish the timber.
