Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Louis XVI style in horology is defined by neoclassical symmetry, restraint, and architectural proportions. Common features include urn finials, acanthus leaf molding, laurel garlands, and floral swags combined with mercury-gilded bronze and painted porcelain panels.

These clocks were predominantly crafted using mercury-gilded bronze, known as ormolu, alongside painted porcelain mounts inspired by Sevres factories, brass clockwork movements, and hand-enamelled dial plates.

Authentic pieces generally display heavy cast-bronze elements with fine hand-chasing, mercury gilding wear on raised surfaces, hand-painted porcelain panels with fine glaze crackle, and French mechanical movements stamped with maker seals or batch numbers.

An ornate gilt clock serves as a focal point when placed atop a simple marble fireplace surround, a minimalist sideboard, or a dark wood console table, contrasting traditional craftsmanship against clean architectural lines.

Gilt bronze surfaces should be dusted regularly with a soft dry brush and kept free of abrasive chemical cleaners which strip thin gold leaf layers. Porcelain panels require gentle wiping with a damp cotton cloth, while mechanical movements require professional oiling every few years.
