Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A reading whatnot is a multi-tiered piece of occasional furniture developed in the late 18th and 19th centuries, designed to hold books, papers, or display items while incorporating an adjustable angled top tier to support reading or drawing.

19th-century examples were typically constructed from polished hardwoods such as rosewood or mahogany, incorporating hand-turned corner posts, brass ratchets for adjusting the slope, and brass castors at the feet.

Authentic pieces exhibit traditional joinery techniques including hand-cut dovetails on drawer joints, turned or fluted corner supports, original brass fittings, and wood surfaces showing natural age and patina.

A rosewood whatnot functions in a contemporary study, living room, or hallway as a vertical display stand for books, artwork, or ceramics, adding distinct wood grain and historical depth to modern schemes.

Position the item away from direct sunlight and central heating radiators to prevent wood shrinkage, clear surface dust with a soft lint-free cloth, and apply a light coating of natural beeswax polish annually.
