Description:
This is a fine quality antique English late 18th century Georgian oak settle, from the George III period, circa 1780, which measures 3ft 9 wide, displaying a warm mellow colour, in excellent condition. With box storage, it is ideal for use in the hallway or kitchen. It originated from a rural property in Staffordshire, northern England. The Georgian oak settle comprises a supportive high back, with a moulded top rail and six solid oak panels, interspersed by pegged, moulded rails and stiles. The ends of the Georgian kitchen oak seat bench are decorated with pronounced scroll sides, which run from the top rail down to the seat. There are also elegant internal shaped arms, set within the sides of the traditional kitchen bench itself. The single panel solid oak hinged seat, which incorporates a cut-out handle, opens on its hinges to reveal large internal storage area ideal for storing shoes! Condition Report:
Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, frame, sides and seat, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. There are no breaks to the frame or legs. The seat lid hinges are in good working condition. There is no lock present on the box settle. The floor of the settle incorporates later pine floor boards. The oak settle has been cleaned and French polished by hand to a professional standard in our workshop, therefore, the finish and colour are of an excellent standard. The Georgian oak settle is well constructed, solid in joint and is ready to be used.
