Description

This Mid 19th Oak Tavern Table and Benches have loads of character. The golden Oak Tavern Table has a matching pair of benches.  The planked table top has a shallow grove either side, which would have allowed any spillages to run off the top and onto the floor and a drawer at one end.

Perfect for a country style kitchen, dining room or restaurant for those large gatherings.

Both table and benches are in a nice solid condition with obvious wear from age and use and the odd sign of ancient woodworm.  The table has a very old repair to the top of one corner which adds to the country charm and history of the piece.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Tavern tables and benches originated in communal eating and drinking establishments, designed for durability and heavy daily use in public houses and inns.

These pieces are typically constructed from solid native hardwoods like oak or elm, utilizing traditional joinery techniques such as mortise and tenon joints to ensure structural integrity.

Authenticity is identified through period-correct tool marks, hand-cut joints, natural patina from sustained usage, and timber shrinkage consistent with age.

Such furniture grounds contemporary open-plan spaces, pairing effectively with minimalist seating or industrial lighting to balance historical character with modern clean lines.

Preserve the wood by avoiding direct sunlight and excessive humidity, applying natural beeswax periodically to nourish the grain without sealing the surface permanently.
