FAQs

Victorian window seats gained popularity during the 19th century, designed specifically to fit into the deep bay windows of large homes to provide comfortable seating for reading or viewing the gardens.

These pieces were typically crafted from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or oak, often featuring hand-turned legs and joined using traditional mortise and tenon construction methods.

Authenticity is identified through period-appropriate joinery, natural timber ageing, hand-turned wood characteristics, and structural wear consistent with nineteenth-century craftsmanship.

A traditional wooden bench can be softened with a custom upholstered cushion or linen pad, creating a functional focal point beneath a window or at the foot of a bed in a modern room.

Preserve the wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, applying occasional natural beeswax, and dusting gently with a dry microfibre cloth to maintain the finish.
