Description:
This is a superb quality and rare antique English Edwardian mahogany Bergere suite, constructed in the style of the Chippendale period, comprising of three pieces, with a solid mahogany and canework frame, circa 1910, in excellent condition. Having a shaped / curved frame makes this a superior Bergère suite (worthy of exhibition furniture) compared to the usually angular / rectangular shaped Bergère suites which are commonplace in the market today. The mahogany Bergère suite comprises of two armchairs and a two-seat couch.
The mahogany Bergère suite incorporates double panel cane-work to the sides of the arms and single panel cane work to the back. Double panel cane suites are better quality than suites that just feature single cane wall throughout. This Chippendale style suite boasts a lovely curved shape on the frame from the back into the down swept arms. The base of the suite descends onto a finely gadroon carved frieze above well pronounced legs, decorated with acanthus leaves, terminating on claw and ball feet.
