A chiffonier is a small, low cupboard or sideboard that gained popularity in the early nineteenth century during the Regency era. Originally designed to hold household linens, books, or dining items, it typically features a raised gallery shelf supported by turned or scrolled uprights and lower cupboard doors.

Regency chiffoniers were commonly crafted from mahogany, rosewood, or softer woods decorated with faux-rosewood graining, known as simulated rosewood. Doors often featured brass wire grilles, pleated silk or cotton fabric panels, and brass mountings.

Authentic Regency pieces exhibit classical proportions, brass trim or gilded line decoration, hand-dovetailed drawer joints, and hand-cut timber veneers. The presence of original pleated fabric or brass mesh panels on the lower door frames is also characteristic of the period.
