This Edwardian bedroom suite dates from 1890 and originates from the Dublin retailer and cabinet maker Arnott & Co. Constructed from oak and burr oak in a golden brown tone, the suite comprises a large three-door wardrobe and a matching dressing table. The wardrobe has a flared cornice, a carved pediment, and a central bevel-edged mirror door. This is flanked by panelled doors with upper glazed sections featuring fretwork detail over cream silk backing, plus one small and one long drawer below, all raised on a plinth base. The dressing table includes a bevel-edged mirror flanked by fretwork panelled cupboards with a patented unfolding mechanism, alongside two small and one long drawer, raised on turned legs fitted with castors. The surfaces show wear, marks and scuffs commensurate with age and use, alongside marks to the mirrors, while overall remaining in good sound condition. The wardrobe measures 230 cm high, 170 cm wide, and 64 cm deep. This grand matching set provides substantial storage and dressing facilities, suited for placement in a traditional principal bedroom.

Edwardian oak bedroom suites typically date from 1901 to 1910 and feature lighter finishes than earlier Victorian pieces. They commonly incorporate quarter-sawn or burr oak veneers, bevelled mirrors, decorative fretwork, and coordinated storage elements including wardrobes and dressing tables.

Pieces from this period utilise hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, solid timber carcases with veneered panels, cast brass hardware, and hand-carved embellishments. Wardrobes frequently feature panelled construction and central bevelled glass mirrors.

Authentic pieces display evidence of period craftsmanship, such as irregular drawer dovetails, makers stamps or paper labels inside drawers or on rear panels, original brass handles with age-appropriate patina, and genuine bevelled mirror plates.

To balance the scale and dark tones of historic oak furniture, pair the suite with light neutral wall colours, crisp linen textiles, modern minimalist lighting, and clean-lined contemporary rugs.

Apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year using a soft cloth, rubbing with the grain. Avoid chemical sprays, keep the furniture away from direct heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage, and wipe spills immediately.
