Antique Elkington 'Squirrel' Silver Plated Claret Jug

19th century
Description

This is a wonderful example of a mid Victorian cut glass claret jug, made by the highly revered firm of Elkington & Co.

The electroplated mounts are stamped ELKINGTON & CO FECT and STOCKER'S PATENT around the rim of the spout. The sprung handle, with engraved decoration, operates the lifting of the heavy glass domed stopper. Fruiting vines decorate the body of the glass jug which, unusually, features a feeding squirrel on the finial. There is damage to the glass around the top rim and there are also a few nibbles on the body. The heavy glass has a starburst base - always a sign of quality. It is a lovely, heavy piece.

Dimensions:

Height: 30cm

Diameter: 14cm.

Post and packaging are free within the UK. Overseas buyers please e-mail for postage costs and please note: Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to buying.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
