Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Regency mirrors produced in the early 19th century are characterised by neoclassical architectural features. Common elements include breakfront cornices, fluted side columns or pilasters, ebonised inner slips, and carved foliate or urn friezes.

These mirrors were typically constructed from pine or lime wood bases coated in plaster or gesso before being finished with gold leaf gilding. The glass panels were mercury-silvered, and frames often incorporated painted or ebonised wooden elements.

Authentic Regency mirrors display signs of age such as natural wear to the gilding showing the red bole underneath, unevenness or oxidisation spots in the original mirror plate, and hand-cut wooden backboards with antique nails.

Positioning a gilt mirror above a fireplace mantelpiece or console table creates a structural focal point. The reflective mirror glass lightens darker spaces, while the gilded frame provides visual contrast against contemporary wall colours.

Dust the frame gently using a soft, dry camel-hair brush or microfibre cloth without applying water or chemical cleaners, which can dissolve water gilding. Mirror glass should be cleaned carefully using a cloth dampened with water, avoiding liquid contact with the frame.
