Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency pier mirror is an architectural wall mirror dating from the early 19th century, traditionally designed to hang on the wall space or pier between windows. Characterised by Neo-Classical influences, these mirrors often feature gilded wooden frames, column turnings, and decorative friezes.

These mirrors were constructed primarily from carved wood or molded composition gesso over a timber carcass, finished with hand-applied gold leaf gilding. The glass original to this era typically consists of mercury-amalgamated plate glass with silvering or mercury backing on the reverse.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of age such as gentle craquelure or wear in the gilding, revealing the reddish clay bole or white gesso beneath. The backboard should show hand-sawn secondary timber with natural oxidisation, and the mirror glass may feature subtle desilvering.

Position the mirror above a dining room sideboard, hallway console table, or between two windows to recreate its traditional architectural placement. The gilded finish provides contrast when set against dark paint tones or contemporary neutral walls.

Avoid liquid glass cleaners or water on the gilded frame, as moisture damages traditional water gilding and gesso. Dust the frame gently with a dry, soft pony-hair brush, and clean the glass surface carefully using a lightly dampened microfibre cloth without contacting the gilding.
