Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Convex mirrors gained wide popularity in Georgian and Victorian interiors during the 18th and 19th centuries. The curved glass scatters natural light throughout a room while offering a wide-angle perspective, traditionally allowing household staff to observe a room discreetly without turning around.

These mirrors were constructed using carved wood or moulded composition frames coated in gold leaf gilding. A dark, ebonised reeded inner slip surrounded the central convex glass plate, creating visual contrast between the gilt frame and the reflection.

Authentic period pieces show signs of age on the rear pine backing boards, natural oxidation or light foxing on the mercury or silvered mirror plate, and gentle wear or craquelure on the gilded surface rather than uniform spray-applied paint.

Position the mirror centrally above a fireplace mantelpiece, console table, or sideboard to serve as an architectural focal point. Its reflective curve captures ambient light and creates a feeling of expanded space in dining rooms, foyers, or living areas.

Dust the gilded frame gently with a dry, soft-bristled brush to avoid damaging delicate gold leaf. Clean the convex glass plate using a slightly damp lint-free cloth, avoiding liquid glass cleaners that could seep behind the frame or erode the silver backing.
