Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Convex mirrors gained wide popularity during the late 18th and early 19th centuries throughout the Georgian and Regency eras. Designed with curved glass, they were positioned in dining rooms and entryways to allow servants to monitor a room discreetly without turning around.

Authentic period examples feature carved wood or plaster frames treated with gesso and gold leaf gilding. The inner slip surrounding the convex glass lens typically consists of ebonised, reeded timber moulding.

Look for genuine signs of age on the reverse, such as original pine backing boards, hand-forged fixings, and naturally occurring oxidisation or foxing on the silvered convex mirror glass.

Position the mirror above a mantelpiece, console table, or in a narrow hallway to maximise light dispersion. The curved glass creates a dynamic wide-angle view, making smaller spaces feel larger.

Dust the gilded frame gently with a soft dry feather duster or dry brush to avoid lifting the gold leaf. Clean the mirror glass using a lightly dampened microfibre cloth, ensuring moisture does not contact the giltwood or gesso edge.
